"In 2003, I made this suite of eighteen small canvases, which represented a transition in my painting, moving beyond nameable iconographic subjects while still maintaining, I hoped, a convincing integrity of place. The group is titled Windows Without Words, in homage to Felix Mendelssohn’s piano suite, Songs Without Words."
